AN URGENT CALL FOR
HELP
The Bantul district of Indonesia near Yogyakarta was rocked by
an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale on 27 May.
Around 5,700 people are estimated to have died; 10,000 were
injured and another 200,000 made homeless.
HOW WE HAVE RESPONDED
AS A DIOCESE :
ACROSS (The Anglican Crisis
Relief Outreach and Support, Singapore) has sent out a relief
team on the 1 June to the area. There will also be subsequent
short-term relief teams on a weekly basis, departing every
Thursday morning and returning the following Tuesday afternoon,
as below:
- Team 1: 8-13 June Team 2:
15-20 June Team 3: 22-26 June
- Estimate cost per person is
about S$400/-.
YOUR RESPONSE:
As a body of Christ, we are
appealing to all to give aid as they can to those who need it.
We need your response:
- as a volunteer in one of the
relief teams. We are searching urgently for medical personnel,
especially orthopaedic surgeons, general surgeons,
anaesthetists, nurses and general practitioners.
- as a donor towards this
mission. Money is needed to buy food supplies and medicines to
help out the victims.
- as a ground helper. Volunteers
are needed to coordinate the relief effort locally.
If you would like to volunteer to
help in any of the above, do contact Mon Peng at 6773-9438 or
across@anglican.org.sg
or fill the online form.
Lastly, we can all contribute in
prayer! Pray for relief for the earthquake victims, for a great
outpouring of God’s grace and mercy upon them, and for the recce
team and relief teams that we will be sending out.
